Southern California Rover Club

Bill Ruttan

Name: William "Bill" Ruttan

Current Vehicles: 1997 Land Rover Defender “Station Wagon” (NAS 90) and 2024 Ineos Grenadier.
Modifications: Mostly stuff to protect the ‘tender parts’ underneath. (During the Club’s Great Divide Trip to the Colorado Rockies in 1999, my many skid plates earned me the nickname “Iron Bottom Bill”).

About me:

I had ZERO off-roading experience when I ordered my first Land Rover in 1994, but somehow I knew these vehicles were synonymous with “adventure”. I joined the Club in 1996 or ‘97 and have been an active member ever since.

Why I love SCRC:

This is a “car club” that believes in using these vehicles off-road “as intended”. The membership has always been diverse and welcoming of the many nationalities and ethnicities that characterize Greater Los Angeles and the “Southland”. I also appreciate that we are a responsible group and adhere to the principles of the “Tread Lightly Program”.
