Holcomb Valley Scenic and History Run
This run will be a mostly easy and scenic trail run through the Holcomb Valley, beginning with a scenic trail overlooking Big Bear Lake. We will continue into Polique Canyon where we will begin our trip into the history of the town of Belleville, where gold was first discovered in 1860 when William Holcomb and his friend were hunting for bear. They discovered some rich ore deposits and the rest is history. That same year, there were more residents in Holcomb Valley than in the rest of the County. By 1870, the town was gone.
We will visit several other historical and scenic areas in Holcomb Valley and depending on the vehicles, we may take on some slightly more difficult trails. Be sure to bring a lunch, a chair for each of you and plenty of water. I will be narrating some of the history over the radio, so be sure to bring an FRS radio with fresh batteries.
